Thanks to a generous $450,000 three year grant from Tesoro, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson is launching an innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program for middle school students. In partnership with Tesoro, our youth will participate in fun, hands-on STEM activities that address topics that surround them in everyday life.

Our STEM education programs provide youth with additional opportunities to investigate phenomena, integrate school day learnings, and acquire new knowledge through the scientific method of inquiry. Tesoro’s commitment will allow the Club to hire a full-time STEM Coordinator who will develop engaging STEM programs and provide training and coaching to BGCC staff leading weekly STEM activities.

The BGCC is excited about the possibilities for the hundreds of kids our clubs serve every day and what this investment means for their future academic success. Thank you Tesoro for your commitment to youth!

For the past 3 years the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson has implemented the Personal Development summer program for Club teens. PD 20 provides them with the information required to make appropriate educational, career, and lifestyle choices. The program culminated in a Community Engagement lesson, where the Club teens presented what they learned during the summer to our middle school club members. The Club teens also provided assistance during Power Hour for elementary school students. BGCC hopes to cultivate stronger connections between our teen and pre-teen membership to not only increase aspirations of academic success but also good character and citizenship.
